| I think I over ordered! |
The work began about a week ago but we didn't get far in the first days. The flooring was brought inside thanks to snow and rain. Then began the task of creating a good reference line across the beams to lay the boards on. I then began in the open loft area as this is the one sure place that the T&G flooring will be visible. The other areas may see carpet down the road so the finished floor, knots, splits and such aren't as important. I ordered 14' boards for the loft so no butt joints would be used. I also chose the best looking boards. Working with 6x12" beams allows a lot of room to nail but I was concerned about a squeeky floor. I applied two beads of subfloor adhesive atop the beams then set the boards down. It went pretty fast with about half the floor done so far. I'm using a nail gun and ring shank nails shot into the tongue area. Its working great with few problems. Oh yeah, this is dried Spruce.
