2nd floor beams are in!

Beams in place

Ah the payback begins. Our son Westin was set to graduate from college over the weekend so I enlisted his muscles and my visiting parents help to place the 6x12 beams. It was a process that went something like this: Cut beam to size while on forklift, walk in and place one end on ladder rung, lift same end and place it on a set of scaffolding, move to the other end and place it on scaffolding, roll scaffolding with beam on it to its location, angle it and have 2 of us lift beam onto girder log, swing scaffolding in line with beam bracket, climb aboard scaffolding and lift beam into bracket. Celebrate that another beam is in! It was a fairly painless process and thankfully I took the time to measure and re-measure the girder beam height. I didn't have much notching to do for the beam to rest in its place. The thru bolts went in okay and the rebar thru the beam into girder had been done many times before. We're now set to lightly stain the beams to give a bit of contrast to the white Spruce T&G that'll rest on top and to cover some sun baking that went on while the beams were sitting at the saw mill.
