The 2nd floor arrives....

Yesterday I took off over Wolf Creek Pass to visit Rocky Mountain Timber Products where I ordered my 6x12 beams and 2x6 T&G plus door and window bucks. Its always a beautiful drive over the pass, down through South Fork and Del Norte. I was impressed with the size of RMTP's yard and the fact it was busy creating timber products. After some time of creative loading and strapping I was on the road back home. It was a very windy day and that coupled with a climb over a 10,800' pass made for a good haul. Thanks to the Duramax diesel it wasn't bad. The descent down the other side towards Pagosa Springs though proved I had some serious weight on the trailer. Fun stuff! It didn't help reading in this weeks paper that 7 semi's have had accidents on Wolf Creek just this year. I was careful! When I arrived home, we placed all the T&G and bucks in the shop then began to unload the beams...what was I thinking? These beams are huge!!! 6x12x18'-24' long weighing Lord knows what! Will my beam brackets and bolts hold them? Will the girder log crumble underneath them? Will my back give out before I even start? How will I lift them onto the girder and brackets? Oh brother! Now I think this through... Next time I'll keep with the 4x12 size and notch a few more spots on the logs and girder...lesson learned!
